  • Parents of Grade 2 and 5 students - Grade 3 and 6 Registration Forms are due on Wednesday, February 24.  Thank you for sending Registration Forms to your child's teacher by Wednesday.   

  • Friday, February 26 is Stand Up to Bullying Day!  Students and staff are encouraged to wear pink on Friday.

  • Please remember that tickets for the February 20 RES Movie Day presentation of "ET" at Empire Theatres Rothesay must be purchased by Wednesday, February 17.  Please send order forms and money to your child's teacher by Wednesday, February 17.

  • A special note to Grade Two parents - An information meeting for parents with children entering Grade Three in the 2010-2011 school year will be held Tuesday, February 16 at 7 PM at Rothesay High School.  At this time the English and French Immersion options will be discussed. 

 

February 8, 2010

  • In celebration of the Vancouver Winter Olympics, all students will be involved in special Olympic activities on Tuesday, February 9.  Please ensure that your child is properly dressed for outside activities in the snow. 

  • Please remember that the deadline for purchasing Red Whale Cafe gift cards is Wednesday.  Cards will be available for pick up on Thursday and Friday.  Ten percent of total sales will be donated to Haiti Relief. 

February 4, 2010

  • Thank you for your help in raising funds for Haiti.  Tomorrow is Crazy Hair Day and those who participate are asked to bring 25 cents or a donation for Haiti Relief.

  • We are also concluding our Pennies for Haiti campaign tomorrow.  Please send change to your child's teacher.

  • In book bags today or tomorrow you will find our final project to raise money for Haiti.  You are invited to buy $10 or $20 gift cards from the Red Whale Cafe here in Rothesay.  The deadline is Wednesday, February 10.  Cards will be available for pick-up on February 11 and 12.  The school will receive 10% of sales and all proceeds will be sent to Haiti Relief.  Please send your orders to your child's teacher. 

January 28, 2010

  • Due to a large number of books that were donated today, RES students will have another chance to visit our Used Book Sale on Friday.  Books will be sold for 25 cents or a donation.  Students will be able to select a maximum of three books.  All proceeds will go to Haiti Relief.

  • Crazy Hair Day is tomorrow.  If students participate, they should donate 25 cents or more to Haiti Relief. 

  • All next week we will be conducting a Penny Drive in all classrooms.  Again all proceeds will go to Haiti Relief.

  • A message from Home & School:  Hot Lunch Volunteer Schedules were sent home last week.  If any volunteers have not received a schedule, please call the school and a copy will be sent home. 

January 27, 2010

  • Our Used Children's Book Sale is tomorrow - Thursday, January 28.  All children will have the opportunity to visit the Book Sale with their teacher.  Due to the number of books collected, we will need to limit each student to purchasing one book.  Books will sell for 25 cents although any donation will be accepted.  All proceeds will go to Haiti Relief efforts.

  • Other events that will raise money for Haiti are:  1.  Crazy Hair Day on Friday.  We will collect 25 cents or a donation from those who participate.  2. All next week, we will be collecting Pennies for Haiti.  Please send pennies to your child's teacher anytime next week.

  • A reminder that we are collecting used children's books for a Used Book Sale.  Books will be sold for 25 cents and all proceeds will go to Haiti Relief.  We will schedule our book sale for Thursday in hopes that more books will arrive Wednesday.  Students will be scheduled to visit the Used Book Sale on Thursday.  Thank you! 

  • We must again remind parents that the Drop Off Lane is for dropping off students only, not for parking.  It is also important that cars stop only on the right side of the drop off lane, not the left.  If cars park on the left and the right the narrow roadway in between makes it very hard to notice students using the crosswalk at the bottom of the hill.  Thank you for stopping only on the right side only and for helping to make our Drop Off Zone as safe as possible.  Thank you!

  • Our efforts continue to raise funds for Haiti Relief.  1.  A Used Book Sale will be held on Wednesday, January 27.  All books will be sold for 25 cents and all proceeds will go to Haiti Relief.  Please send gently used books to the school by Wednesday morning.  Please note that any remaining books will be donated to charity.  2.  Friday, January 29 will be Crazy Hair Day.  Students and staff who participate are asked to donate 25 cents or a donation. 

  • Wednesday, January 27 is Family Literacy Day.  The Used Book Sale and teachers reading their favourite books will be activities that will take place at school .  YOU are encouraged to be involved in literacy activities at home not only on January 27, but every day.  For ideas, please check the website www.familyliteracyday.ca

December 14, 2009

  • A reminder that our Home & School is providing Christmas Dinner.  Dinner is being served on December 16 for K to 2 students and on December 17 for Grades 3 to 5 students.  As a result, there will be no Hot Lunch served on December 16 and 17. 

  • Christmas Concerts will be held on Tuesday, December 15 and will be repeated on Wednesday, December 16.  The K to 2 concert will be held from 9 AM to 10 AM.  The Grades 3 to 5 concert will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. 

  • December's Celebrate theme is "Be the Best for the World".  To be the best for others in our school, Caring for Kids cards will be sold for donations at the Christmas Concerts.  Funds raised will help RES students go to summer camp.  To help our community, we are collecting non-perishable food items for the KV Food Bank in the sleigh in our lobby.  To assist elsewhere in the world, we are collecting for World Vision projects in Third World countries through special Fridays.  You will have an opportunity to contribute to any of these projects during our Christmas concerts.

  • Tomorrow is PJ Day.  Students are invited to wear their PJ's to school and to bring 25 cents or a donation to World Vision.

  • We also ask that Parent Perception Surveys be returned by tomorrow - Friday, December 11.  These will be sent to the Department of Education.

·   Parent Perception Surveys have been sent home today.  Please complete this survey and return it to your child’s teacher by Friday, December 11.  Your opinions are important to the School Improvement process.  Thank you!

·   A reminder that FundScrip orders are now in.  Please pick these up at the school office. 

·   The Celebrate theme for December is “Be the Best for the World”.  We are helping those within our own school community by selling Caring for Kids cards at next week’s Christmas concerts with all proceeds going to sending students to summer camp – those who couldn’t afford to go otherwise.  To help our community, we are collecting non-perishable food items for the KV Food Bank.  Please send these in at any time and help us see the sleigh in our lobby fill up!  Also, through two special Fridays we are collecting for our World Vision project where students will decide how to best help the less fortunate in other parts of the world.  This Friday is PJ Day and December 18 is Red & Green Day.  Both days we will collect 25 cents or any donation. 

·   We thank our Home & School for providing Christmas turkey dinner for students again this year.  Please send in the slip on the back page of our December Newsletter to your child’s teacher by tomorrow, Tuesday the 8th, so that we can ensure that enough food is prepared. 

·   With the arrival of snow and cold, we ask that students be prepared to play outside with warm clothing including winter jackets, snow pants and boots.

  • FundScrip orders have arrived and are ready to be picked up at the school office.  Thank you for your support!

  • Our Fall Book Fair is currently underway.  Students have or will have a chance to visit with their classes.  We hope your will drop in over the next two days.  On Thursday, the Book Fair is open from 8:20 AM to 7 PM.  On Friday, the Book Fair is open from 8:30 AM to 12 PM.  The Book Fair is located in the Primary Music Room.  Please follow the signs. 

  • Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences take place Thursday from after school to 7 PM and on Friday morning from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.   We encourage you to attend as we continue to partner in your child's education.

  • As the cold weather approaches, please be sure that students are dressed appropriately for outside play.

  • A question:  Have you filled a bucket today?  We encourage you to do so.  For an explanation, please see our newsletter which went home today and can also be found on our school website.

  • Hot Lunch Order Forms were sent home today.  Due to Christmas Dinner being offered on Wednesday, December 16 and Thursday, December 17, no Hot Lunch will be served on December 16 and 17.  Please X out December 16 and 17 on your Hot Lunch Order Form.                                                                                                                 Details of the Christmas Dinner will be described in our upcoming December Newsletter.

  • A reminder that Dr. Maggie Mamen, a dynamic, humourous and celebrated presenter and author will be coming to School District 6 to speak to parents on November 24. Dr. Mamen is a clinical psychologist in private practice in Nepean, Ontario, specializing in working with children, adolescents and their families. She is the author of four books and numerous articles and has appeared on radio and television programs across the country. Dr. Mamen will speak to parents on November 24 at 7 PM at Hampton Middle School. The topic of her presentation is "Parent Power: The Quiet Revolution". This seminar will explore peaceful ways in which we can regain our confidence as parents and reclaim our families. Additional details are found on the school website and in our November Newsletter.

  • The latest information from Public Health states that the recommendations for a second dose of H1N1 vaccine for children have changed. Recommendations are: 

    ·          For children older than six months and younger than three years --> 2 doses

    ·          For children aged three-to-nine years who are healthy --> 1 dose

    ·          For children aged three-to-nine years who have chronic medical conditions**  --> 2 doses

    (** Heart disease, diabetes, asthma/chronic lung disease, kidney disease, blood disorders, liver disease, weakened immune systems (children taking cancer drugs or those with HIV/AIDS), and neurological disorders.)

    H1N1 influenza immunization clinics will begin next week for children who require their second vaccine.   Please check the website http://www.gnb.ca/cnb/Promos/Flu/index-e.asp for details on upcoming clinics. 

  • We have had a number of inquiries about the dates of our Christmas Concerts.  To assist working parents, each concert will be presented twice - Tuesday, December 15 and Wednesday, December 16.   On each day, the K to 2 Concert will be held from 9 AM to 10 AM and the Grades 3 to 5 Concert will be held from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.  The storm date will be Thursday, December 17.  All Christmas details will be listed in our upcoming December Newsletter. 

  • Please be watching for our Fall Scholastic Book Fair on December 2, 3 and 4.  Notices will be coming home soon.

  • Term One Report Cards will be released on Monday, November 30 and Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, December 3 from after school to 7 PM and Friday, December 4 from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM.  We hope you will make time to attend. 

  • FundScrip orders are due Monday, November 23.  This is your chance to support the school as you purchase gift cards for popular retailers.  What you spend, you receive back in gift cards.  The FundScrip company gives a percentage of what is purchased back to the school.  Gift cards make great Christmas presents!  Please send your order to your child's teacher on Monday.

  • K to 12 Parent Information Sessions will be held on November 18 from 7 PM to 9 PM at Rothesay High School

Community members and parents from all Rothesay schools are invited to attend Parent Information Sessions.  A wide variety of topics will be presented such as Financial Advice for Teens ;  Helping Parents Understand the Dangers of Texting and the Internet;  Learning Styles: How Does Your Child Learn Best? ;  Help! My Child is Changing! (Understanding a Child’s Brain) and Kids Have Stress Too (Helping Parents Understand Stress and Anxiety in their Children).  This night is brought to you by Community Schools and participating schools.  For more information, please contact Justin Stoodley, Community School Coordinator, at 721-7739, or call the school anytime.

  • FundScrip orders are due next Monday, November 23.  This is a great opportunity to purchase gift cards and support the school at the same time.  These make excellent Christmas gifts!  Order forms were sent home last week and more are available at the school.  Please have your orders sent in by Monday the 23rd.

  • Our Remembrance Day assembly will take place tomorrow.  Members of Brownies, Scouts, Cubs, Guides, Awana, etc. are encouraged to wear their uniforms if they would like.    
  • FundScrip order forms are being sent home tomorrow.  FundScrip is a company through which gift cards / certificates may be purchased.  What you purchase through FundScrip is the amount of the card you receive.  Each purchase earns a small percentage profit for the school.  Groceries and gas are regular expenses.  Why not support the school through ordering grocery or gas cards?  Don’t forget that gift cards are wonderful Christmas gifts and this will be our only order before Christmas.  Please have orders to your child’s teacher by Monday, November 23.  Gifts cards will be available for pickup by Wednesday, December 2.  Thank you for your support!

·   A reminder that we have been informed by Public Health that Monday’s H1N1 clinic at RES will only be accepting people who match the reduced priority list - school aged children, pregnant mothers over 20 weeks and front line health care staff.  At the K-2 level, Public Health requests that a parent/guardian or designate be present with the child and this can be at the daytime or evening clinics.  Students at RES will follow the same approximate times as were sent home earlier this week.

  • Please remember that RES is a nut free facility.  Please be especially careful that any Halloween treats being sent to school are nut free.  We also ask that candy be limited and that the focus continue to be nutritious snacks. 
  • November 2 to 5 is Career Week.  If you would like to share your profession with our students, please call our Guidance Counsellor, Lisa Ehrenreich at 847-6333, or our Community School Coordinator, Justin Stoodley, at 721-7739.
  • November 6 is a Professional Development Day for staff.  There will be no classes for students on Friday, November 6.

From Public Health:  We have been experiencing long line ups at the evening clinics and ask that people respect the guidelines above with the identified target groups.

The H1N1 Immunization Clinic at RES is scheduled for Monday, November 2.  During school hours, the clinic will begin at 8:30 AM and will run through the day. 

Approximate times for students of RES are:

Grade Five – 8:30 AM to 9:15 AM

Grade Four – 9:15 AM to 10 AM

Grade Three – 10 AM to 10:45 AM

Grade Two – 10:45 AM to 11:30 AM

Grade One – 11:30 AM to 12:15 AM

Kindergarten – 12:30 PM to 1:15 PM.

  • H1N1: 
    • H1N1 forms are needed on Wednesday as we put numbers together to send to Public Health.  Please be aware that we need two papers returned to your child’s teacher – the back page of the coloured brochure and the white paper sent home from the school.  Please ensure that these are sent you’re your child’s teacher.
    • A parent notice will be sent home tomorrow which lists approximate times that each Grade Level will be getting their immunizations on Monday, November 2.  Target groups and procedures will also be described.  This sheet is blue. Please look for it in your child’s book bag on Wednesday.
  • Skating:

Our RES Skating Program is about to begin.  A yellow skating notice will be sent home tomorrow.  Please complete the form and send it to your child’s teacher with the $4 fee.   

  • Soccer Jamboree for Grade Five Students:

A Grade Five Soccer Jamboree will be held on Friday, October 30th from 2:30 until 4:00pm at Quispamsis Memorial Field.  If your child is now able to attend due to the change in dates have your child ask their homeroom teacher for a permission slip.  If you have submitted a permission slip and your child is now unable to attend, please contact Mrs. Moore at the school, 847 6203.

  • Mad Science:  All who registered for Mad Science have been accepted into the program which begins this week.  Those who have selected Monday as their day will begin today.  Those who have selected Tuesdays will begin tomorrow.   Sessions will take place in classrooms located in the Primary Wing of the school.  When picking up your child, please proceed to the Primary Wing and signs will direct you to the classrooms.

  • H1N1 immunization pamphlets were sent home yesterday.  Public Health will hold an immunization clinic at Rothesay Elementary School on Tuesday, November 2 from 8:30 AM to 9 PM.  Please review the information, sign & return to your child’s teacher two forms:

    1. The last page of the brochure is a consent form indicating whether you wish to have your child immunized at school during school hours.  
    2. The white sheet gives details about the parent’s visit to the school – if you will be coming in during the school day or during after school hours.  We also need to know whether you will be bringing additional family members.  This is important to know so that appropriate supplies are available.  A schedule will be created so parents will know the time to come with their children.   There will be no schedule for evening clinics.

        Please note that parents of students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 are encouraged to attend the clinic with their    child. The parent & any younger siblings will be offered the immunization at that time also.  Also, please remember that the clinic will go until 9 PM to accommodate those students who were not able to be immunized during the day and for other children in the community between 6 months and 5 years of age.

  • Picture Retakes originally scheduled for November 2 have been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 27. 
  • Career Week is scheduled for November 2 to 5.  We would be very grateful if you would be willing to come in and discuss your occupation with our students.  Please call our Guidance Counsellor, Lisa Ehrenreich at 847-6333     if you are able to do so. 
  • Our evacuation practice will proceed tomorrow, Friday, October 23, weather permitting.  All students and staff will be walking to Rothesay High School tomorrow morning.  Please ensure that students are dressed appropriately.

  • Mad Science registrations must be in by Tuesday, October 20.  Please send these to the school with your child. 
  • We will have an evacuation practice on Friday, October 23.  All students and staff will walk to Rothesay High School, our evacuation site, on Friday morning.  Kindergarten to Grade Two students will be bused back.  All others will walk back.  Please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately on Friday.    
  • Grade Five Parents:  October 23, KVHS is inviting Grade 5 students to participate in the 2009 Elementary School Soccer jamboree which takes place at Quispamsis Memorial Baseball Field from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM.  Mini soccer games will be set up for schools to play against each other.  There will be approximately 6-8 mini games going on at the same time.  Drinks will be provided.  Parents will be responsible to arrange transportation to and from Quispamsis Memorial Baseball field.  Any questions contact Ernest Rice @ KVHS 847-6366.

  • A reminder that there will be no classes for students on October 8, 9 and 12.   October 8 and 9 are Professional Development Days and the 12th is Thanksgiving.   Happy Thanksgiving from the students and staff of Rothesay Elementary School!

  • Cross Country has been cancelled for Wednesday, September 30 due to the Hampton fields being too wet.

  • Home & School is meeting tonight at 7 PM in the staff room.  All are invited to attend!

  • Our Terry Fox Walk has been rescheduled for Friday, October 2.  Any donations will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation.

·         Our annual Terry Fox Walk will take place on Friday, September 25.  We are having a  “Toonie for Terry” drive on Friday where we are inviting each student to bring a toonie.  All voluntary donations will be sent to the Terry Fox Foundation.

  • A reminder of our Open House tonight at 7 PM.  This is an information session for parents where teachers will give information on curriculum and classroom expectations.  We will also be looking for people who would like to serve on our Parent School Support Committee.  We hope to see you tonight at 7 PM.

A number of materials will be sent home tomorrow:

  • Kindergarten parents will receive a survey concerning the Transition to Kindergarten initiatives.  We ask that you return these as soon as possible so that we can send these on by Friday of this week.
  • Letter from Superintendent Zoe Watson on the H1N1 Virus. 
  • Home & School Magazine Campaign – Please send magazine orders to your child’s teacher through this week.  
  • Hot Lunch menus – The deadline for orders is Wednesday, September 16.  Please realize that our Hot Lunch program is run by working parents.  Because of the problems that late orders create problems for volunteers determining final numbers and for the restaurants providing the food, absolutely no late orders will be accepted.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. 

Also, the tallying of orders and the counting of money will take place on Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30 PM, not the morning of September 16 as previously announced.    Help is needed to do this and the more help there is, the easier and faster the job will be.  If you can give some time, please meet in the Staff Room on Wednesday at 6:30 PM.  Thank you!

The new school year has begun!  We had a wonderful first day today and we look forward to seeing the second half of our K students tomorrow.

A couple of reminders:  Please send your child’s completed Student information Sheet to your child’s teacher as soon as possible.  It is very important that our files have up to date information. 

Also, school photos will be taken on Thursday, September 10.  Harvey Studios will again be taking our photos. 

Our apologies to last year’s Grade Five parents who are receiving this message.   Aliant is redoing our Talk Mail system and we should have new distribution lists created soon.
